Towards this goal, this section provides the latest information on a number of issues that have a direct impact on artists such as medical benefits, jobs, tips on good business practices, competitions and other artists opportunities. Professor of Viola - University of New Mexico

POSITION: Part-time, tenure-track, assistant professor of viola
RESPONSIBILITIES: Applied Viola: 8-10 hrs per semester applied lessons , Chamber Music, Orchestra Repertory, String Quartet, String Repertory, and String Pedagogy.
RANK & SALARY: Part-time Assistant Professor: Salary=$24,750.
BEGINS: August 13, 2001
QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in music by the start date of the appointment. Must be qualified to teach university-level applied Viola, string pedagogy, string repertory, orchestra repertory, and coach chamber music for strings.
APPLICATIONS: Application materials must include: (1) a detailed vita: (2) a minimum of three letters of recommendation sent directly from their sources or rom an agency (3) a list of courses or subjects areas previously taught or within the candidate's ability to teach: (4) programs of recitals and concerts presented within the last three years. Only complete applications will be considered. Semi-Finalist will be asked to submit a videotape of their teaching of a private Viola lesson.

Cultural Arts Program Coordinator

Housing Authority of the City of San Antonio Closing date 12/27/00 Grade 16 Salary Range 15.00 hourly (30 hrs. weekly) Grant Funded (18 months of funding already secured)
Duties: Performs administrative and specialized work coordinating a specific grant awarded to the Cultural program, under the guidance of the Program Manager, which is designed to prevent drug activity by providing residents with alternatives to such activity through cultural arts an other services.
Educ. and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 2 years of related experience or any combination of education experience. Must possess a valid TX class "CDL" License or b able to obtain one within 6 months of employment and be insurable by the carrier of SAHA's liability and fleet insurance. *A substitution ratio of 2 year of related experience for each year of education will be accepted. FLU ALERT FOR ARTISTS

Don't let the flu stop you from making art. Flu season is here and a vaccine is available at city health clinics. Flu shots cost $5 at the city health clinics. The health clinics will also charge the cost to CareLink if you are a member. Be sure and take your CareLink card when you go the one of the clinics. Immunization for the flue is available at all the clinics before noon. Call the clinic for their office hours. Below is a list of city health clinics:

ABOUT CARELINK
A program to help you with medical problems

CareLink is the financial assistance program of the University Health System. It is a way for you and your family to get medical care at a low cost. Although CareLink is NOT AN INSURANCE PLAN, it is a financial assistance payment plan for service received at the University Health System only.

Who is eligible?
Eligibility is based on family size and level of income. See the examples listed in the table below.

Starving Artist Show

39th Annual Starving Artist Show Saturday, April 7 - Sunday, April 8, 2001. Interested artists must obtain an application form from the Little Church office January 1, 2001 or thereafter. This can be done in person or by sending a self addressed, stamped, bushiness-size envelope to:

Registration Procedure:
(1) Complete the application form. (incomplete applications will be returned to sender).
(2) Include a check or M.O. for $25.00. Check will be returned if you are not registered. $25 is non-refundable if you cancel. A check or M.O. for 10% of your sales will be due and payable immediately following the show.
(3) Include a color photograph (not slide) of yourself with a sample of your art work in one photo. Print name on back of Photo.
(4) Include a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope.
(5) Return your application as soon as possible in order to expedite registration.
Sculptors Competition

Area sculptors ages 18-29 can win up to $1,500 in a competition sponsored by the San Antonio chapter of the National Society of Arts & Letters, a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to assisting artists at the beginning of their careers.

Deadline for submitting slides of artists work is Feb. 3, 2001. There is an application fee of $15. For an application, call Polly Price at 828-4722 or email pollyprice@earthlink.net
