"I remember that I bought this piece because a woman, a Latina was at the center of the piece. It's so rare to see a woman like one's self, if you're Latina, at the center of an art piece. We're usually relegated to the side or we're absent altogether. I try to make it a point to buy local artists' work--especially Latino work but not always--and I liked the ambiguity of the expression--the not being certain whether the woman was anxious, fearful, ready to fight or flee.
