About Luis Lopez

Luis Lopez was born in Rio Bravo, Mexico and has lived in San Antonio Texas since 1976. Luis was raised in a small house near his grandfather's ranch. He and his 11 brothers and sisters knew the life of living off the earth. He picked cotton at an early age and worked with his father on the farm. His mother introduced him into the world of conceptualizing the beauties of nature. Lopez' inquisitive mind and questioning nature carried him throughout the interior of Mexico.

He works with a multitude of media: acrylics, oils, pastels, water color…His specialty can be found in the vast murals throughout San Antonio such as the relief at MiTierra which he created with Chuy Garza, solo mural at La Margarita of "Las Campanas de America", "Moses and the Lamb" at Sembrero Church, Cityscape mural at Rocky's Restaurant, the "Missions" at El Carmen Clinic, "PreColumbian" mural and paintings at Janitzio's Restaurant and numerous others.

Lopez puts a great deal of passion into his work to reach people. Lopez' passion is in combining surrealistic and abstract work, but is very adept at painting realism. His vivid and rich palette conveys the passion he brings from watching and studying nature's own palette. He creates the same color scheme that surrounds him. He combines colors that most artists would say could not work together but Lopez somehow seems to make them work.
