Jeff Bacon was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1954 and was raised in the Philadelphia and New York metropolitan areas. It was during those formative years that he first encountered fine art through visits to major art museums in the East. Soon, with encouragement from teachers, he began developing his artistic talents through drawing and painting, later expanding his interests and experimenting with other media. During his teen years, Jeff continued to focus on and delve deeper into the visual arts.It was during this time that he became interested in graphic arts and advertising as a possible vehicle for expressing his creative energies. This eventually led to a college major in graphic design and a career in advertising that spanned twenty years. Through all this, fine art continued to play an important - if secondary - role in Jeff's life.
Eventually, the opportunity arose for Jeff to concentrate more completely on fine art and he began to actively develop his talents as a painter. After experimenting with styles from photo-realistic to abstract expressionist, Jeff has been able to successfully synthesize elements and influences from his diverse background and has rapidly developed his own distinctive visual imagery. In addition to Cubist and Abstract Impressionist influences, Jeff's extensive training in advertising and graphic design is evident in the bold geometric shapes and bright colors he employs in his paintings.
Jeff has lived in San Antonio since 1998 and is currently represented exclusively by AnArte Gallery. He has participated in the gallery's grand opening exhibit and has also participated in other group exhibitions at the Southwest School of Art and Craft, San Antonio Watercolor Group. In addition to AnArte Gallery, Jeff's work is also on display at the Alta Moda Salon and Le Peep Restaurant in San Antonio.
Artist's Statement As it's become easier for everyone to capture a perfect representation of nearly any subject through photography, the role of the artist has changed from preserving an accurate view of reality to interpreting that reality as well. Every artist manifests, through their work, their own unique perception of reality, but that's just the first half of the process. For art to achieve its full purpose, it must be experienced and interpreted by others as well.In my art, I've drawn on a rich diversity of artistic inspiration, as well as personal imagery, to create works of art that transcend the literal representation of images and express emotional and psychological images as well. Shape and color play integral roles in capturing both conscious and unconscious perceptions of the subject and in translating them into images that touch many emotions. It's my desire to draw viewers in, inviting them to have a personal experience; to explore and interpret my work from their own unique perspective.
