advocating for and affirming the lives and struggles of people of
color, women, lesbians and gay men, the working class and poor.
Founded in 1987 by Latina women, both lesbian and straight, the
Esperanza has grown into a formidable, visionary, multi-issue institution.
We believe in building bridges across divides by creating spaces
for the exchange of stories, for honest and critical dialogue, and
for expanding people's understandings. We do this through diverse
and dynamic programming that includes film festivals, visual art
exhibitions, concerts, a hand-made pottery cooperative program,
drama & poetry performances, writer's forums, a youth media program,
the publication of a grassroots magazine, leadership workshops,
technical assistance, marches and rallies, and creation of and collaboration
in activist networks.
Gemini Ink
Gemini Ink is a nonprofit company that was established by two writer/teachers.
The Writing Workshops, a counterpart to the Gemini Ink Reader's
Theater and the Gemini Ink Writer-in-the-Community Program, offers
classes in the study of psychology, philosophy, theater, and literature,
as well as a variety of writing workshops emphasizing craft. Instructors,
local and national, are highly credentialed and have a commitment
to teaching. Classes are serious educational experiences, presented
in a supportive, informal environment, appropriate for both novice
and advanced writers, as well as anyone who enjoys books and good
conversation. Equally important is the development of the Gemini
Ink community, students and teachers who support art in literature.

The San Antonio Watercolor Group (S.A.W.G). provides opportunities
for all those interested in water media to study with the best instructors;
to gather together often to paint, discuss, critique and enjoy;
to present our work to nationally acclaimed artist/jurors, and then
to San Antonio in a quality annual exhibition, thereby stimulating
interest in and appreciation of watercolor. Since our beginning,
interest in watercolor has grown nationally at an amazing rate,
as has the quality of the work of our members. From a small nucleus
of sixteen people, we're now over 400 strong and still growing!
